Our Mission

We aim to make theatre accessible in Melbourne by producing contemporary Shakespeare shows, educational programs, family productions, and collaborations with independent artists. Our mission is to engage and inspire communities to connect with the arts.

Our Work

Founded in 2016 by Jennifer Sarah Dean, Melbourne Shakespeare Company aims to make Shakespeare and theatre accessible to all in Melbourne.

Renowned for exceptional contemporary adaptations of Shakespeare's plays in relaxed outdoor settings, we have expanded our repertoire to include studio productions, new Australian works, family musicals, radio plays, and workshops.

Our commitment to sustainability and inclusive policies has garnered national and international acclaim, positioning us as leaders in Melbourne's Independent Theatre scene.

At Melbourne Shakespeare Company, we prioritize inclusivity, quality productions, and showcasing Melbourne as Australia's arts capital. We value every individual and strive to create a welcoming environment.

“Melbourne Shakespeare Company’s production of As You Like It is a reminder of everything that we love about outdoor theatre in the summertime.★★★★★” — Theatre People

“Melbourne Shakespeare Company has taken an extremely jovial and energetic approach to the text and infused it with wry humour and great slapstick comedy.” — Stage Whispers

Our Commitment

In 2019 Melbourne Shakespeare Company committed to trying to become one of Australia's first sustainable theatre companies.

We use recycled, reclaimed and reused materials for our props and sets, and try to employ sustainable practises throughout all of our rehearsal and performances.  Click to view Melbourne Shakespeare Company's Sustainability Policy.
